March 19th 2011 - Wheal Coates

March 19th 2011 - Wheal Coates

Got up nice and early on Saturday morning to do some walking training with the dorgs and my W I D E lens along the North Coast. We started off at Wheal Coates, near St Agnes, and walked south westwards, along the coast, through Chapel Porth and Porthtowan, ending up outside Portreath Airfield before turning round and retracing our steps.

As you can see it was such a beautiful morning! Fabulous sunshine and good vis - you can see St Ives far along the coast.

Coate Water Country Park, Swindon, Wiltshire

Coate Water is a man made reservoir constructed by The Wilts & Berks Canal Company in the early 1820's to top up the canal which passed through Swindon at the time. However, following the arrival of the Great Western Railway in the 1840's the canal gradually fell into decline and in 1914 the Swindon Corporation acquired the site as a place for leisure for the people of Swindon.

Looking East. The chimney in the background is for the wood fired water heater next door. Garh Jaisal had the same wood furnace and the hottest water of the whole trip. The Nepalese hotel hands would stoke the heater's fire in the morning and evening.

The ash bucket

The ash bucket

I think my mom has had the same ash bucket and shovel since before I was born. It's sat next to every wood stove and fire place I ever remember my family having.
